Bangalore,
otherwise known as the Garden City and the
Silicon Valley of India, is a truly cosmopolitan
town with a salubrious climate. In spite of its emergence
as a centre of industry and commerce over the past few
decades, Bangalore has retained its quaint old world
charm and wide open greens. The second appellation derives
from the fact that Bangalore is home to the most successful
of Indian computer hardware and software firms. It also
has the largest telecommunication and aviation factories
in the country.
Bangalore
is of special interest to tourists because of its proximity
to the worlds largest free-standing monolith at
Sravanabelagola, the ruins of the ancient city of Vijaynagara,
the sculptures of Belur and Halebid, the Chamundi Hills
and the mausoleum of Gol Gumbaz at Bijapur. The erstwhile
royal state of Mysore is also close by. Within Bangalore,
the stately Vidhan Soudha (State Legislature), the ruins
of the great mud and brick fort, and the Lal Bagh, or
red garden, are worth a look. Above all, Bangalore is
worth a visit for its vitality - the main streets offering
delightful shopping experiences, the colourful pubs
resounding with music, the joie de vivre of the people,
the race courses, the inviting greens of the Golf and
Country Clubs - there is something for everyone.
For
the conference and convention organiser, Bangalore offers
many excellent venues, a number of luxury hotels and
the latest in facilities.
